Tips Before Installing... From a user... 2 Years, 5 Months ago

Because there doesn't seem to be any activity here in the forums by the support folks here, I figured I'd add a few notes here and hope that people read this BEFORE they start screaming that this componant doesn't work...

First - Cpanel/WHM

If you are using CPanel/WHM: keep in mind that CPanel/WHM usernames are only 8 character names - not complete email addresses - so don't expect the module to connect you to the CPanel system like you think it will - the usernames in ClientExec are full email addresses and are not compatible with CPanel (at this time - if anyone knows a workaround, I'm interested in knowing).

Second - System Requirements
The system requirements for this componant are not "recommendations", they are requirements. Be sure that you have mcrypt properly installed and compiled into PHP on your server otherwise this componant will NOT syncronize passwords properly and you'll have all sorts of headaches.

Third - Source Code Editing

I'm not saying this is the case with everyone here having issues with this componant, but from personal experience, I'm sure it's a factor in many installations not working as planned...

Be sure that you follow the instructions of the install provided in the ZIP - there are TWO PDF's that are detailed on what you need to do to make this componant install and work properly. Follow the directions, and make the necessary edits to your ClientExec source code files as required.

As always, be sure to make a full backup of everything before you start making edits, I noticed that there were a few questions about how to "back out" of your install, and manually editing source code doesn't automagically revert back to previous verions by itself! LOL

For the most part, this componant does everything that it claims to do. Aside from the username issue between Joomla and CPanel - I think we are looking at a good bridge... but it's just a bridge between the login systems, this is not a bridge that takes all of the functionality of ClientExec and merges it seamlessly into Joomla... I don't see that EVER being the case with this due to the various different platforms that Joomla and ClientExec supports. Each platform has it's own way of working, and every host that will utilize this will have their own customizations that this developer will not (and should not be expected to) account for.

If you are looking for just a good way to sync your logins into Joomla with the logins into your Client Exec installation, then YES!!! THIS COMPONANT DOES THE JOB PERFECTLY! Don't expect more out of it other than what it was meant to do here...
